ERNAPE 2007

Faithful to its long and fruitful tradition, ERNAPE will give the opportunity to scholars from all over Europe to discuss issues relating to school-family and community partnership and monitor processes and products across Europe.  It will identify instances of creative practice and problems arising in the area at a time of intensified antagonism and competition across Europe.  You are invited to contribute to this international discussion and offer your views on an intricate, fascinating and fast expanding topic.

The conference is organised by The University of Cyprus,
and the Cyprus Association for Inclusive Education

About ERNAPE

ERNAPE is the European Research Network about Parents in Education.  In October 1993, with financial support from the European Commission, a group of researchers working in the field of parents in education in different parts of Europe met in Glasgow to discuss how to increase contact across Europe, to exchange knowledge of research developments in Europe and to stimulate research about parents and education at all levels, including intercultural European research.  The group decided to establish ERNAPE and to organise this research network by language areas, rather than by countries. ERNAPE is an independent body, not tied to any political, religious or other ideological groups.
Based on the belief that schools alone cannot provide all the needed services to assist children and citizens in being ready to learn and achieve, ERNAPE incorporated the term "Parents in Education" which includes both the relationship of parents to school systems and the contributions which parents and families make to their child's learning outside school.  It focuses on parents as educators, home-school links, family learning, education for parenthood, and related topics.  The field of research about parents in education and families in education is increasingly being recognised as vitally important. More and more research is being carried out world-wide.  Since there is a general trend that children tend to spend most of their waking (therefore learning) time not only outside school but also outside home, it is not surprising that research is being directed at parents and families and how they interrelate with schools and other arenas for their children's learning lives.  Increasing use of information and communications technology can only accelerate this trend.

History

ERNAPE has so far held five (5) very successful conferences in different parts of Europe (Copenhagen, Amsterdam, Rotterdam, Gdansk, Oviedo) with ever increasing attendance.  The number of participants has increased considerably, as has the quantity and quality of the papers offered and the discussion taking place.  To its credit ERNAPE has published the proceedings of all previous conferences.

ERNAPE 2007

The island of Cyprus has been chosen as a location for the 6th ERNAPE conference.  A new member State of E.U., Cyprus is located at the South- East part of Europe well into the embrace of the Middle East.  The University of Cyprus will be celebrating its 15th anniversary at the year of the conference, and this will be a good opportunity for guests and locals alike to take stock of the important work which has been carried out in recent years establishing a healthy educational research community.  It will also give guests the opportunity to combine a productive academic trip with a pleasant late summer break.

Participants

The conference organizers would welcome researchers in the field of Education, Family Education and Family-School-Community Partnerships, teachers, practitioners, educationalists, service providers, representatives of Family and Parents’ Associations and representatives from other agencies who would like to present, and/or learn about research results on school-family-community linked, comprehensive actions and services for children, families, schools and communities.
