The 9th HSTAM International Congress is dedicated to the memory of professor Ioannis Vardoulakis who died in September 2009.

Within the Congress activities a series of mini-symposia will be organized in the following areas where I. Vardoulakis had worked and made significant contributions

1. Experimental Mechanics
2. Constitutive Modelling and Higher-order Continua
3. Mechanics of Multiphase Geomaterials
4. Bifurcation and Localisation Theory
5. Liquefaction, Fluidisation, Internal Erosion, multiphase flow
6. Computational Geomechanics
7. Geomechanics Applications

People with research interests, scientific contributions in those areas and long relation with Ioannis Vardoulakis are invited to attend the Congress and present a paper in one of the above topics. A number of papers will be published in a special journal issue or in a special book volume, after a peer review process, dedicated to the memory of Ioannis Vardoulakis.
